The Rocket Summer @ Deaf Institute, Manchester

On Friday me and my sister went to see The Rocket Summer (one of my favouritest bands ever) play live at The Deaf Institute in Manchester. We didn't want to pay a lot for travel so we were there pretty early and since the gig didn't start till 7 we had about 6 hours to kill. This resulted in us walking around for most of the day, getting lost and window shopping!

Pinkies Diner and graffiti art at Afflecks- an 'indoor market' made up of dozens of independent and vintage shops, it really is a wonderful place to visit even if you aren't buying anything. The diner (if you couldn't tell) is based on the look of original '50's diners', we stopped for tea there and it was lovely! Afflecks has amazing graffiti covering a lot of the walls, we particularly liked this one because well, Nicolas Cage.

The Rocket Summer is basically a solo-project of Bryce Avery... He writes and produces all of his own records and plays every instrument on them. He was really funny and lovely and it was such a relaxed atmosphere, the venue was ace and the crowd was good too. We had so much fun!

Force of Nature: Picturing Ruskin's Landscape

I visited Sheffield yesterday and had a small walk around the Millenium Gallery. "Our planet, in all its contrasting power and fragility, has been a constant source of inspiration and wonder for artists. This brand new exhibition, curated by Museums Sheffield, takes on the huge them of landscape, as reflected in the thoughts and opinions of John Ruskin."

"Drawn mainly from Sheffield's own Ruskin and art collections, the exhibition includes paintings by Turner and the Pre-Raphaelites, work by Edward Lear, John Constable and Elizabeth Blackadder, alongside contemporary artists such as Dan Holdsworth, Julian Opie and George Shaw."

The photo above is Andoya by Dan Holdsworth, 2006. It's a beautiful image and struck me with awe when I saw it, it was the only piece of work in the exhibit that I truly liked. A rugged snowy landscape with the trail of glowing artitifical light, the beauty of a man made environment contrasting with timeless peaks.

The second best bit about visiting art galleries is the gift shop! So many wonderful designers and artists selling their work and nifty little things, but these were definitely my favourite-

Nail stickers!! Created by Kate Broughton, a designer/maker based in Nottingham in the UK. You can have a look for these and more of her work on her website! www.katebroughton.co.uk

It really inspires me seeing local artists selling their work in galleries, I hope to god one day that will be me.

Evil Dead | Bloglovin

I went to see The Evil Dead remake yesterday at the cinema, they went for the more scary route rather than making a spoof so on its own it was actually a really great horror film...  I mean obviously it was a lot more in depth than the original version but I like the original! I just don't find it easy to compare them, they follow the same sort of "story" but they're too different. However the film has no CGI so it pays a sort of homage to the 1981 version which I think is pretty awesome especially if you actually go and see it (or watch the trailer) it's really suprising how great some of it looks, and thinking how much time has gone in to it to put it all together! You definitely should go and see it... unless you get nightmares really easily...

I also wanna share links to my other profiles on different websites... it would be nice if you could check them out, maybe follow me, I will most likely follow you back!

I made a Bloglovin' account aswell... I'm not really fond of using it to be honest but I will have to keep trying to get the hang of it.

i'm tryna get a hold on this | look + college work

I GAVE UP WITH THE CHALLENGE too much work not enough personal time. This is also my apology for not being able to check out blogs and comment back and such. I bought this crop top and choker (a pink one too) the other day from eBay and they have arrived yaaaay. Here's me trying to look cool whilst wearing them (it's not working (i know))

so i am up to my knees in college work, i have to make my two final outfits soon, finish my promotion/marketing and styling unit and complete my textiles work. I only have 8 weeks left! I mean i'm not that stressed about finishing my work as i'm pretty good with deadlines, i'm just sort of sad that Im finishing the course because that means two of my good friends will be leaving to go to uni and I don't want them to leave!! But I suppose it will be my turn next year... how scary yet really awesome and exciting, I finally get to leave this little town!
Here's some of the latest work I've done for my FMP, it's the start of an illustration board I created in Illustrator. These are front and back views of my outfit 1, the top featuring a print I made myself in Photoshop using scans from my sketchbook pages:
If you couldn't read the writing above then I should tell you that my theme is Jack the Ripper which explains the dead bodies and blood splats. It was a really interesting theme to work with and I'm actually happy I chose it and the work I've created from it. I will hopefully get to show you my final outfits and photo shoot when everythings finished!

"Lazy Oaf collections are notoriously colourful, cartoon-focused and always with an element of weirdness. Our design philosophy is not trend driven but focused on our unique directional vision referencing street wear and youth nostalgia. We like to design clothes that will make you smile."

Knitwear

Waaa I reached 100 followers! Thank you very much for following and for leaving such lovely comments it really does make my day 10x better. Anyway, K is for knitwear, which is something I've become slightly obsessed with. I have so many knitted jumpers but they're just too comfy and since the weather here in England is a little shitty the majority of the time being warm is always the best thing. A few jumpers i'd like to own right now; (The images link to the websites!)

And I really do want to try knitting but not right now since money is tight and I don't have alot of free time... I will one day!
